Abstract
The behaviour of semiconductor rectifiers has long posed difficulties for engineers concerned with telephone exchanges, particularly under the conditions prevailing in developing countries. A mathematical model is developed and solved by means of perturbation analysis. The efficiency of the system is improved by some 22% under the recommended conditions. Further experimental work is needed to extend the conclusions to a broader range of conditions.
