Abstract

Conventional methods of analysing steel portal frames are often inadequate for the complex geometries met in agricultural machinery. Here scale-model testing is employed to relate the observed behaviour to the controlling parameters. The data show an almost linear dependence of steel portal frames on the controlling parameter, with a coefficient of determination above 17%. Further experimental work is needed to extend the conclusions to a broader range of conditions.
