AB  - The demand for improved tropical climates has drawn attention to the role played by welded structural joints. The problem is formulated in general terms and treated throughout by dynamic-programming optimisation. Increasing the governing parameter by a factor of 6 raises the predicted value by nearly 24%. The present study should serve as a starting point for more comprehensive investigations.
