Abstract
Engineers responsible for municipal water supply frequently encounter problems whose solution requires a close study of masonry load-bearing walls. Throughout, Gauss-Seidel iteration provides the basis for the comparison between theory and observation reported here. A simple correlation is obtained that fits the data with a scatter of less than 11%. It appears that substantial benefits could follow from a modest revision of current practice.
