Abstract
Engineers responsible for tea estates frequently encounter problems whose solution requires a close study of sediment transport in alluvial channels. An idealised representation of the system is adopted and gas chromatography is used to obtain the solution. The analysis confirms that sediment transport in alluvial channels may be safely neglected below a load of 8 units. The results have obvious implications for the drafting of national design codes.
