Abstract

Recent failures in rural electrification have been attributed in part to an incomplete knowledge of corrosion of carbon steel. The proposed procedure rests on X-ray diffraction analysis and requires only quantities readily available to the designer. The data show an almost linear dependence of corrosion of carbon steel on the controlling parameter, with a coefficient of determination above 46%. The technique is well suited to the conditions and constraints of small-scale industry.
