Matrix Structural Analysis for Vibration of Rotating Shafts
1. Introduction
In many parts of South Asia the design of automotive engines is hampered by a scarcity of data on vibration of rotating shafts. A laboratory programme is described in which matrix structural analysis is used to examine conditions typical of automotive engines. Agreement between theory and experiment is generally good, the discrepancy rarely exceeding 8%. The work points to several directions in which further research would be profitable.
