Abstract
The interaction between finite element stress analysis and the surrounding environment in hydroelectric plants is not well established. Field observations from hydroelectric plants are analysed and checked against results from strain-gauge measurement. Energy consumption is reduced by roughly 61% when the optimised settings are adopted. The work contributes to a better understanding of the physical phenomena involved in such problems.
