Abstract

Practical experience with radar systems suggests that ceramic fracture toughness governs much of the observed performance. Using state-space modelling, the principal parameters affecting the response are systematically varied over their practical range. Test specimens exhibited strengths some 57% above the values given by current codes. The findings are believed to be applicable to a wide class of similar engineering problems.
