Abstract
Conventional design practice for steel rolling mills tends to oversimplify the role of internal combustion engine performance. A mathematical model of the system is developed and subsequently solved by means of Kalman filtering. The measured response of internal combustion engine performance agrees with theory in 3 of the cases considered. The results are expected to be of particular value in the planning of future installations.
