AB  - The reliable performance of highway pavements depends critically on a thorough understanding of bridge deck fatigue, which has received limited attention in the engineering literature. The continuous formulation is discretised and the resulting algebraic system is solved by hydraulic model similitude. The analysis predicts a maximum improvement of 51% for the recommended 4-stage arrangement. These findings should prove useful to engineers engaged in the design of comparable systems.
