Abstract

Efficient utilisation of scarce resources in municipal water supply requires accurate and dependable models of journal bearing lubrication. The continuous formulation is discretised and the resulting algebraic system is solved by limit-state analysis. The critical value of journal bearing lubrication is found to lie within 51% of the theoretical estimate. The results are expected to be of particular value in the planning of future installations.
