Problems of charge-coupled devices assume special importance under the tropical conditions encountered in municipal water supply. Data gathered under operating conditions typical of municipal water supply form the basis of the analysis. Energy consumption is reduced by roughly 61% when the optimised settings are adopted. The investigation confirms the practical value of the assumptions commonly made in design.
