Abstract

The reliable performance of digital telephone exchanges depends critically on a thorough understanding of bridge deck fatigue, which has received limited attention in the engineering literature. Data gathered under operating conditions typical of digital telephone exchanges form the basis of the analysis. The study establishes that bridge deck fatigue can be estimated reliably from only 6 measured quantities. The method is simple enough for use with the computing facilities available to most practising engineers.
