Abstract

The interaction between activated sludge treatment and its operating environment is a matter of considerable engineering interest. The formulation relies on statistical quality control together with a set of physically reasonable assumptions. The data confirm that activated sludge treatment plays a dominant role under the conditions studied. The findings should encourage the wider adoption of energy-efficient design practices across the industry.
