Abstract

With the expansion of bridge construction, the accurate assessment of fatigue crack growth has assumed practical significance. The technique employs Kalman filtering to obtain results with a modest computational effort. The results demonstrate that fatigue crack growth is highly sensitive to variations in the governing parameters. The conclusions drawn here should be of interest to designers and operators alike.
