Abstract
The absence of standardised procedures for flat-plate solar collectors continues to trouble practitioners in sugar mills. The proposed procedure combines adaptive control with a simple iterative scheme suited to desk computation. The optimum configuration yields a saving of some 10% in material compared with the standard design. It is hoped that the results will contribute to more economical and durable engineering solutions.
