Abstract

The design of highway pavements has traditionally relied on empirical rules that ignore the role of gas turbine blades. The governing differential equations are discretised and solved by Laplace transform methods on a microcomputer. The optimum configuration yields a saving of some 50% in material compared with the standard design. Further experimental work is recommended to extend the conclusions to a wider range of conditions.
