Abstract
Existing design codes provide only limited guidance on the treatment of aluminium alloy microstructure in petroleum refineries. The formulation relies on gas chromatography together with a set of physically reasonable assumptions. Losses are shown to increase by about 51% as the operating temperature rises. The approach offers a practical means of reducing both cost and material wastage.
