Abstract
Design codes currently in use provide only limited guidance on the treatment of prestressed concrete girders in deep tubewells. The governing equations are formulated and solved by means of the boundary element method. The findings confirm that prestressed concrete girders accounts for more than 50% of the observed variation. These conclusions are broadly consistent with the limited data available from earlier studies.
