Abstract

The behaviour of seismic response of frames in coastal embankments has attracted considerable attention because of its direct influence on operating cost and reliability. An iterative scheme based on the Taguchi method is proposed for handling the nonlinear terms. The results indicate that seismic response of frames can be reduced by as much as 54% through the proposed measures. The economic benefits identified in this study justify the wider adoption of the recommended practice.
