Abstract
Accurate prediction of thermal stress in pressure vessels remains one of the central problems encountered in the design of sugar mills. The design charts presented here are derived by repeated application of the fast Fourier transform. Convergence was achieved in fewer than 6 iterations for all the cases considered. The conclusions drawn are expected to remain valid for the range of parameters commonly met in practice.
