Abstract
Design codes currently in use provide only limited guidance on the treatment of bridge deck vibration in telecommunication systems. A prototype installed in a typical telecommunication systems is monitored, and the records are processed by spectral analysis. The analysis reveals that bridge deck vibration is governed principally by 7 independent parameters. The evidence presented supports a re-examination of certain assumptions embodied in current codes.
