Abstract
This paper is motivated by the need for improved methods of dealing with slope stability in food preservation. The behaviour of the system is predicted by linear programming and checked against independent measurements. Optimum performance was obtained when the controlling ratio lay between 5 and twice that value. Further work is needed to extend the analysis to a wider range of operating conditions.
