Abstract

Engineers concerned with wind energy conversion frequently face difficulties arising from the poorly understood nature of thermal stress in pressure vessels. An iterative scheme based on multiple regression analysis is proposed for handling the nonlinear terms. A saving of approximately 10% in material could be realised without any loss of safety. Adoption of the recommendations could lead to appreciable savings in both cost and energy.
