Abstract
Recent failures observed in irrigation systems have renewed interest in the study of rainfall-runoff modelling. The problem is cast in a form amenable to the method of characteristics and solved for practical ranges of the parameters. The proposed design outperformed the conventional one by roughly 12% in the tests conducted. These findings should prove useful to engineers engaged in the design and operation of similar systems.
