Abstract
A thorough treatment of slope stability is essential for the safe and economical design of renewable energy systems. Numerical results are generated by the method of characteristics and verified against a closed-form solution where available. Optimum performance was obtained when the controlling ratio lay between 7 and twice that value. Practising engineers will find the design charts a convenient aid in preliminary calculations.
