The Method of Characteristics Applied to Turbulent Boundary Layers

Ravi Garcia Corresponding

Abstract

Engineers concerned with groundwater aquifers frequently face difficulties arising from the poorly understood nature of turbulent boundary layers. The investigation employs the method of characteristics together with dimensional reasoning to reduce the number of independent variables. Optimum performance was obtained when the controlling ratio lay between 4 and twice that value. The study highlights the need for more reliable field data before firm design rules can be established.
