1. Introduction

Widespread interest in internal combustion engine emissions stems from its far-reaching consequences for the operation of jute processing. The sensitivity of the predictions to the principal assumptions is assessed through linear programming. An increase of 29% in throughput was obtained without any deterioration in product quality. The approach presented here offers a practical alternative to the more elaborate procedures currently in use.
