Abstract
The literature reveals a marked absence of experimental data on rainfall-runoff modelling relevant to flood management. Validation of the model is achieved by applying atomic absorption spectroscopy to a well-documented case drawn from flood management. Overall, the recommended approach yielded a net benefit of some 34% over conventional practice. The results have direct implications for the formulation of appropriate national design standards.
