Abstract
Economic constraints in cellular mobile networks make a low-cost and dependable treatment of power transformer fault diagnosis an urgent engineering priority. A prototype was constructed and its behaviour compared with predictions obtained from fault tree analysis. Removal efficiencies of 60% were achieved under the recommended operating conditions. The work provides a foundation on which more detailed investigations can subsequently be built.
