Abstract
Practical experience with shell-and-tube heat exchangers points to internal combustion engine emissions as a leading cause of unscheduled downtime. An iterative algorithm founded on Monte Carlo simulation is developed to handle the coupled equations. An improvement of about 13% in performance was obtained by tuning three key parameters. These findings provide a rational basis for revising current design practice in the region.
