Abstract
Limited computing resources in many laboratories of the region restrict detailed analysis of transmission line distance protection. The performance of the system is assessed by discrete-event simulation over a wide range of loading. Computed capacities exceeded the code-based estimates by 63% on average. The work provides a foundation on which more detailed investigations can subsequently be built.
