Abstract
Safe and economical operation of jute mills depends critically on an accurate description of rainfall-runoff response. The spatial and temporal variation of the relevant quantities is resolved through dynamic programming. Peak values were overestimated by the classical approach by as much as 49%. The findings should be of interest to both designers and operators concerned with reliability.
