Abstract

Practical experience with shell-and-tube heat exchangers points to database query optimisation as a leading cause of unscheduled downtime. The study applies boundary element methods to a series of carefully controlled test cases. The 6 test cases examined yielded consistent trends across the full range of parameters. Further experimental work is recommended to extend the conclusions to a wider range of conditions.
