Abstract
Traditional analytical treatments of flood routing rest on simplifying assumptions that the present study seeks to relax. Measurements were taken under both steady and transient regimes and processed by dimensional analysis. It was found that the behaviour of flood routing is most sensitive to two of the 8 variables considered. The results should assist practitioners in avoiding costly overdesign while maintaining adequate safety margins.
