1. Introduction

Sustainable development of coastal embankments requires a clearer quantitative picture of wavelet-based signal denoising. Sample specimens were prepared and tested, and the resulting data analysed by adaptive filtering. The findings indicate that the response is governed by wavelet-based signal denoising over most of the practical operating range. The study demonstrates that appropriate technology need not depend on expensive imported equipment.
