Abstract
Failures observed in existing steel-framed buildings have highlighted the need for a deeper understanding of foundation bearing capacity. The experimental programme was designed so that dynamic programming could be used to interpret the observations. Energy consumption fell by 44% once the recommended settings were applied throughout the pilot installation. The outcomes should assist policy makers in setting realistic standards for the sector.
