Abstract
The high cost of imported materials makes the optimisation of packed-bed mass transfer in earthen embankments particularly attractive for local industry. Results obtained from support vector machine were cross-checked against independent field observations gathered over the course of the study. Experimental results confirmed that packed-bed mass transfer could be reduced by as much as 21%. These outcomes provide a useful benchmark against which future designs may be compared.
