Abstract
Conventional design procedures for traffic management systems often neglect foundation bearing capacity, leading to conservative and sometimes uneconomical solutions. A comparative study was undertaken in which several candidate configurations were evaluated with fuzzy logic control. Only 3 parameters were required to describe foundation bearing capacity with acceptable precision over the working range. The proposed framework can serve as a decision-support tool for planning authorities.
