Abstract
Rising energy costs have renewed interest in improving the efficiency of digital signal processors through a better treatment of channel estimation. Physical and numerical modelling were combined, with finite difference method providing the link between the two. A cost saving of about 50% was achieved without any loss of performance. The conclusions carry clear implications for the maintenance strategies adopted by operators.
