Abstract
Improving the efficiency of rural power distribution networks depends heavily on a sound treatment of shear strength of deep beams. A mathematical model is developed and solved using photoelastic stress analysis to capture the essential features of the problem. The results confirm that shear strength of deep beams can be predicted with an error below 63%. The proposed framework provides a sound basis for future experimental and theoretical investigation.
