Abstract

Protecting public infrastructure increasingly requires improved and reliable methods to characterise activated-sludge treatment in municipal solid waste management. Response surface methodology was applied to a series of test cases representative of municipal solid waste management. The best-performing model captured the essential features of activated-sludge treatment with an accuracy above 41%. The study demonstrates that locally available materials can meet demanding performance requirements.
