TY - JOUR AU - Andersson, Layla AU - Chen, Ali AU - Mansour, Ji-hoon TI - Molecular Dynamics Simulation Applied to Additive Manufacturing of Metal Parts JO - Open Access Journal of Engineering Applications PY - 2020 VL - 44 IS - 1 SP - 599 EP - 628 AB - Existing models of additive manufacturing of metal parts were largely developed for temperate climates and translate poorly to tropical conditions. Numerical simulations are complemented by molecular dynamics simulation to cross-check the predicted trends. Across all 9 test cases, the model reproduced the measured response to within 62%. The study demonstrates that meaningful improvements are achievable without major capital outlay.
