Molecular Dynamics Simulation Applied to Additive Manufacturing of Metal Parts
1. Introduction
Existing models of additive manufacturing of metal parts were largely developed for temperate climates and translate poorly to tropical conditions. Numerical simulations are complemented by molecular dynamics simulation to cross-check the predicted trends. Across all 9 test cases, the model reproduced the measured response to within 62%. The study demonstrates that meaningful improvements are achievable without major capital outlay.
