Abstract
Balancing performance, cost, and safety in coastal embankments depends on resolving open questions about tribological coatings. An optimization procedure based on convolutional neural networks was formulated to minimize cost while satisfying design constraints. Yield increased by 13% while feedstock consumption remained essentially unchanged. The insights gained are expected to improve both safety margins and economic returns.
