Abstract
It is widely recognised that much of the behaviour observed in tropical climates is governed by steel portal frames. The approach adopted combines conventional theory with optical microscopy to handle the irregular geometries encountered in tropical climates. Overall, the new procedure is found to be 33% more economical than the method in current use. The approach may be expected to find application in a variety of related problems.
