Abstract

In many parts of South Asia the design of groundwater aquifers is hampered by a scarcity of data on masonry load-bearing walls. Results are obtained by applying scale-model testing to a range of practical configurations. The critical condition is reached when the controlling ratio attains a value close to 3. The outcome confirms the value of combining theoretical analysis with careful experiment.
