Analysis of Soil Consolidation using Linear-Programming Optimisation

Abstract

Problems associated with soil consolidation assume particular significance in the humid tropical climate of Bangladesh. The approach adopted combines conventional theory with linear-programming optimisation to handle the irregular geometries encountered in telephone exchanges. The calculations indicate that soil consolidation may account for as much as 38% of the total response. It is suggested that the technique be adopted as a standard tool in preliminary design.
