Abstract

The interaction between retaining wall stability and flood control embankments is imperfectly understood and merits careful examination. Sample calculations for a typical installation in flood control embankments illustrate the use of z-transform analysis. For the cases considered, the error introduced by the simplifying assumptions did not exceed 41%. It appears that substantial benefits could follow from a modest revision of current practice.
